Over the next five to ten years (and more after that too!), I plan to continue to learn and grow as a teacher, a colleague and a professional.
Starting in fall of 2019, I will be attending McGill University as a Master of Arts student, majoring in Education & Society with a focus on Mathematics, Science and Technologies. I will be completing a Masters Thesis focusing on perspectives of students and educators surrounding science, science learning and community.
After my Masters, I hope to work as a high school science teacher in a variety of contexts. I think it’s important to never settle as a teacher. A teacher should always change up their pedagogical methods, context, students or country. Constant change is the only way to keep your teaching fresh and yourself always on your toes. Students need diversity and passion from their teachers, and teachers need to maintain these by never getting too comfortable.
Finally, I hope to one day work in administration to give back to the schools and communities who would have helped me to learn and grow over the years. Once I have acquired all of the knowledge and experience required to hold a position either in a school board or as a principal, I think it is important to move into these types of leadership roles to see how you can improve the systems which helped so many, including yourself as a younger professional.
